              Great location & incredible staff”

              location, price

Junior Guesthouse is located in Old City and 5-10 minutes walking to most of the in city attractions - wats, markets, etc. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless, bed pretty comfortable, cold air conditioning (although we didn't need it when using the fan) and TV with a bunch of english speaking channels. All of the basic things you'd expect at a really fair price. The real highlight of Junior Guesthouse is the staff. Always a smile. Always helpful. Always a good recommendation. We arrived pretty late our first night and immediately one guy took my bag, another handed us the room key and said we could check in tomorrow and we should go rest and within 3 minutes of stepping out of our tuk-tuk we were in our room. The next day we did officially check in and sat with one of the managers who explained the layout of the city, his recommended places to visit, arranged a scooter rental and chatted with us about his background and ours. Overall, it was just a pleasant experience staying there. We decided to extend our trip in Chiang Mai and wanted to stay on at Junior Guesthouse, but they were fully booked.

              The people make the place”

Very helpful staff, good location, affordable

Having paid only £6 a night I wasn't expecting much other than a place to sleep but Junior Guesthouse turned out to be superb. They say people make the place and that is perfectly demonstrated here by Jeff and Tata. After we dropped out bags in our room, these guys gave us a map, highlighted all the key things to do/see (silver Wat!), told us where to get buses rather than taxis and generally were amazing. They were always around to say hello and even have a drink with - challenge Jeff to a beer bong if you are up to it, think he did it in two seconds. The place itself isn't Buckingham Palace. It looks a little old, the decor is strange etc. but you are paying dorm prices for a private double room. And who cares what it looks like!? It was clean, had a warm shower, free water in the room, has wifi and we didn't see any bugs. What more can you need? Drinks and food are cheap in the guesthouse so I'd recommend you give them a try. The guys don't forcibly try to sell you anything so it's easy to not realise they actually do food. Other guests were friendly and always good to chill with and have a drink in the evening before heading off. There's a rooftop jacuzzi but sadly we never got to use it as Chiang Mai has so much going on we were never about until it had shut (7pm). The location is superb: right next to the Wat with the crystal Buddha in and close to the bus stop that goes up to Doi Suthep. About ten minutes walk and you're at Thapae Gate and its bars and night bazarre etc. We walked almost everywhere, that's how good the location is. I'd have no problem staying here again.

Great Place to Start Chiang Mai Adventures”

Restaurant was very good, location was great, staff was helpful

We showed up quite early from a night bus and they were able to check us in immediately, which was great. Jeff, the owner, speaks excellent English and gave us a map and diretions to all the major attractions in Old City. The other staff is also helpful and speaks good English. Laundry is quick and cheap, and the guesthouse restaurant is excellent and very reasonably priced. Around the corner, there's also a fantastic Thai kitchen that has 40-50 baht meals and lots of Northern Thailand specialties. There are lots of bars about a 5-7 minute walk away, and a free pool table at Chiang Mai Saloon and The Wall. It's a great spot for exploring Old City and for renting a motorbike or a taxi to see other parts of Chiang Mai. Tiger Kingdom, Wat Doi Suthep, etc... are an easy trip away. We really enjoyed our stay at Junior Guesthouse and we ended up staying extra nights. Thanks for the great time!

The staff are amazingly helpful and always go that extra mile to help you. It is perfectly located in the old city. The rooms are a nice size.

Our stay at Junior Guesthouse was a pleasant surprise. After coming from a five star hotel in Bangkok we didn't expect much from a 10 dollar a night budget room! When we arrived the staff could not do enough to help you out with information on travelling or trips regardless of whether you want to do them or not. They are happy to have you there as their guests and it really does feel like your part of the family. We enjoyed breakfast there a few times in the three days we were in Chiang Mai, make sure you try the fruit bowl with milk and cornflakes, perfect to start the day and not to mention the special dish Kao Soi for dinner which we tried in another place but didnt compare to Junior House. All in all we had a very pleasant time at junior house, the rooms wasn't superb but you cannot complain for the price. Jeff the owner even gave us a lift to the muay thai kickboxing show on the night. Now that is what you call a good host. Such nice people in such a peaceful city.

Cozy Guesthouse tucked away on a small side street”

Caring Management and Staff, excellent location.

I have just returned from a 3 week stay, end of January and beginning of February, 2012. This is a mini high season with lots of retired tourists who return to Thailand every year after spending the Christmas and new year holidays back home with their families. Also, there are quite a few travelers from china and Taiwan who are taking their Chinese New Year vacation, so my advice is to book early online! There were quite a few young backpackers combing the streets for a good guesthouse and unfortunately losing a lot of their holiday time just looking for a place to spend the night. Junior guesthouse was at full capacity every night I was there and the management and staff were always busy helping with questions and arranging various services. The location was excellent. Old City, northeast corner. Just a two minute walk to the North Gate Jazz Co-op, the front side of the building is open to the sidewalk and on busy nights people fill the inside, the sidewalk and spill out into the street. Junior house serves good quality food but within 2 minutes walking distance you can find little cafes that serve Indian vegetarian food and Thai food. Another Cafe in the area is run by a man from California but serving British style food, great food and nice open atmosphere, fast and friendly service. My favorites were the Thai cafes that didn't charge tourist prices. Most cafes that cater to tourists charge around a 100 baht for a meal but Thai cafes that cater to mostly local people serve fresh hot meals for around 30 baht. This location is also good because it is walking distance to Tha Pae Gate, which is the main gate on the east side of the old city, where a lot of events take place. Also strategically located for getting around by bicycle because this location puts you between the new high rise buildings in the east, near the river and the Nimmanhameimer road area in the west that is sprouting up with some larger buildings but also a wide variety of entertainment ven

              Great location, staff friendliness and

Junior guesthouse provided me with one of the most pleasant experiences I have had overseas. Upon arrival at Chiang Mai airport, Jeff provided me with airport transfer in his car while giving me an overview of what food and places Chiang Mai has to offer. At the Guesthouse, the room and facilities were clean. There was even a balcony in the room! The location of guesthouse was excellent. Fi who was patient and friendly sat down with me and went through all the popular places in the city. Overall, it was an excellent experience staying at this guesthouse. Would recommend it.

A place to stay whilst looking for long term accommodation”

Junior guesthouse was a perfect place to stay for me while waiting for my permanent accommodation to be vacated by the previous tenant. The owner/manager, Tata; yes like the truck is friendly, happy, obliging and speaks excellent English. It is a bustling place stayed in by friendly happy people from all over the world. Although I may never see them again, I made some really nice Friends. Tata's staff are friendly, happy and only to happy to help despite some of them having limited English as well. They can organise tours, bus trips, flights etc., and have meals, coffee, tea in house, to suit most travellers. Thai & Foreign. A restaurant also owned by them serves up burgers, fries, satays etc., just around the corner; and is frequented, both by Thais and Foreigners. Absolutely delicious! Now as a resident of Chiang Mai I will be eating a burger with fries every Saturday. I do love my Thai food but these burgers & fries put western establishments to shame. Give Junior Guesthouse a go!

Location, Staff, Free pick-up from the airport

We stayed only two nights in Junior Guesthouse but we are very happy and we would repeat. The staff is very kind and Tata is really kind and he tries to speak in Spanish to us! He explained us very well what to visit, where to go, where to have lunch, etc. and all what they told us was very helpful. Location is very good. Old city is walkable, however markets are outside the old city so you should take a tuk tuk or rent a bike (they rent bikes for a reasonable price). We booked a tour with the hotel as well, I don’t know if they offer the tours more expensive than in other tour agencies around Chiang Mai, but we found the price a reasonable price. Room and bathroom is big, but in general the hotel and the furniture is quite old-fashioned and in my opinion it needs some improvements and arrangements. We had breakfast one day there and I don’t recommend it, since it wasn’t good and not that cheap. The environment there is very nice, is a guesthouse full of young people so you can share some beers in the evening there with other guests and with the hotel staff, which is very nice and enriching. They offer free pick-up from the airport!

Very kind service and locate in the old town.

i took the train from bangkok to chiang mai. then we took the taxi to junior guest house, taxi driver asked us for 200 baht, actually the price is about 100 baht. be careful!!! then we checked in junior guest house, workers there are very nice, ready to help us at anytime. we booked the room at about 90 hkd for one night, it's cheap, however, some people there told us baht can also book one. you can rent motorbike there, baht for one day, not expensive and really cool. my girlfriend and i rode the motorbike to almost all the places of chiang mai. chiang mai is a very beautiful city, but also very hot!!! however, until i went back to hong kong, i really missed the days in chiang mai, i found that i love the small city-chiang mai!!!

              staff, comfortable, activities

Really glad to have stayed in this guesthouse, the staff was amazing and the rooms spacious and breezy though lacking in decorations( the granparent brown and green bedcovers put us off for about five min. until we realized how good we had it, clean comfortable and private). I would recomend that all Chiang Mai activities be booked directly through the staff (in Tata we trust! everyone was always smiling and ever so helpfull) seeing as the prices are the same as everywhere else but they make sure you are getting exactly what you are paying for as opposed to the other sketchy tour operators that say a and do b, we found that out on the only thing we didn't book through junior house. You get budget facilities with five star customer service. Another point we appreciated is that they don't try to sell you anything, of you ask they'll arrange it but if you want to be left on your own they do just that, leave you be. Located in old city, a good stepping stone for anjoying Chiang Mai... which we loved partly thanks to jr house.

Really enjoyed our stay at Junior Guesthouse! We stayed four nights and thought that the customer service was brilliant. The guys who run the guesthouse are so friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to remember your name which was a really nice personal touch. They were always happy to talk and answer any questions we had. Location was also good; inside the old city and much quieter than the other busy streets we walked past to get to the night bazaar! Breakfast was delicious also :) All in all a great stay and would love to stay here again if returning to Chiang Mai!

Great staff, good food, friendly atmosphere

We had a fantastic stay at the Junior Guesthouse. It's a family run guesthouse, and all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They helped us to plan our stay in Chiang Mai, and help us with directions for us when we headed off exploring on our scooter. The room is basic, but large, clean and light. The food serviced is good quality and very tasty. The location is great for exploring the temples and markets of Chiang Mai. For budget conscious travellers looking for a friendly place to stay, I would defiantly recommend Junior Guesthouse.

              Friendly Staff, Location, Value

Very comfortable, clean and homely. The guesthouse is in an excellent location within the old city. Private bedrooms with a bathroom are Very cheap at 400 bhat (roughly £8) per night. So with two people that is only £4 each per night which is not that much different to what you would pay for a bed in a shared room in a hostel. The guest house offers cooked food throughout the day which is both cheap and very tasty. The staff here are all incredibly friendly and helpful. Special mention to 'Tata' who was so amazingly friendly, helpful, engaging and enthusiastic. We visited during Songkran and had a lovely time. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel especially during Songkran because throughout Songkran the hotel invited all the guests to come on the back of a pick up and drive around the old city getting involved in the Songkran water fight action for hours. This was really great fun and a nice touch for the hotel to offer this service free of charge. I will definitely stay here again if I revisit Chiang Mai in the future. It was one of the most pleasant stays we have had in all our travelling to date through Asia. Luke and Emily From the UK

Staff, staff, staff… plus the hot tub.

There was a lot of choice for accommodation in Chiang Mai and we were so very lucky to have picked Junior Guest House! We arrived very early on the night train from Bangkok but the staff made us feel at home immediately looking after our bags and providing us with a little overview of Chiang Mai and the surrounding area. They explained the different activities and treks available to us but at no stage did they try the hard sell. When we returned from our 3 day trek they kindly filled the hot tub on the roof for us which was the perfect way to unwind and rid the dust and grim from our aching bodies. We stupidly left our walking shoes drying on the roof of the guest house and the staff found them and posted them on to us in Koh Tao. They were so very very kind. We have told everyone we've met to stay there too. Thanks Junior Guesthouse especially Tar Tar!!!

              staff!; location!; vibe

Junior Guesthouse was a WONDERFUL place to stay, and the perfect "welcome" to Thailand. We were picked up at the airport, which was really nice after 30 or so hours of travel, and the two college age guys who pretty much run the place were so enthusiastic and helpful for the duration of our stay. The hotel itself is basic and clean, and in a great location. We were just a short walk to temples and restaurants. Geoffrey and TaTa helped us learn a little bit of Thai and gladly recommended local dishes to try and places to see. They also helped us find the local climbing shop so we could set up easy transport to nearby Crazy Horse Buttress. The guesthouse had a low-key comfortable vibe and the one breakfast we ate there was fabulous. I will absolutely stay here again next time I'm in Chiang Mai!

Great service & always with a smile We stayed at Junior Guesthouse for 3 nights and highly recommend them. Not because their guesthouse is the most modern, or most luxurious - but because it felt like a home away from home.... Yes it felt 'lived in', but it was clean, comfortable, had all the mod-cons (wi-fi, cable TV) as well as a bit of luxury (a rooftop jacuzzi). But beyond those 'functional' requirements, the thing that sets this place apart are the smiles - the amazing service. They really do the small things extremely well. Without a doubt we'll return and stay with them when we're next in Chiang Mai.

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff, really cheap room that was comfortable

We loved this Guesthouse because the staff did as much as they could to make our visit to Chiang Mai enjoyable. We arrived late in the afternoon, wanting to start the Mae Hong Son loop early the following morning. They got the maps out and gave us as. Inch info as they could about the route to take and which sites to stop off at. They rented us automatic scooters for the trip, which were in very good condition and at a good rate. We had already booked in at another guesthouse for our return stay in Chiang Mai but definitely would have stayed at Junior Guesthouse again if we hadn't done so. Even then, upon our return they offered to arrange a taxi for us to the airport for the following day. We just cannot say enough good things about the staff. The room was comfortable but nothing special. It's what we expected for such a cheap price. Would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I had a very very happy time at junior guesthouse over Christmas. The owners and staff make you feel like you are part of their family and go out of their way to help. The rooms are spotless; the location is quiet and close to everything. If you want to go trekking or on a tour they are happy to organize it for you. They have maps and everything you could want to find your way around chiang Mai. There are good cheap places to eat within walking distance, I would gladly stay there again. We had a room on the 3rd floor and my advice if you do stay is dont get a room on the ground floor as it Can be a little noise as that is where breakfast and everything happens.

I really enjoyed my stay at Junior Guesthouse. Tata, one of the main front desk staff, was the best part of the guesthouse. He was super friendly and helpful. He knew a lot about what to do and see around Chiang Mai. His English is fantastic as well! The guesthouse itself was comfortable. My room was spacious and always clean. Nothing super fancy with the hotel room though. Just a clean bathroom and comfortable place to sleep. The wifi worked great! The location was quiet and there were some great places to eat in the area. A close walk to the sunday walking night market. A bit longer of a walk to east gate and the night bazaar. I totally recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in Chiang Mai. Fantastic experience.
