please note this review is for ruan mai beach *not* the other rooms (they are both in the same listing to confuse you, 2 different resorts!) expensive for what it is by thai standards, but cheap for phuket - if you're the type of traveller who has just been or plans on staying in baht a night beach bungalows, then this is a great hi or bye to the land of smiles to bookend your trip. previous reviewers noted the difficulty of finding the place so please pay attention: the ruan mai beach bungalow rooms are located right on nai yang beach, literally, you don't need to wear shoes to wander down the garden path and the resort opens directly to beach access, it's ace for the price & location and compared to the other resorts in this price range nearby. ask the taxi driver to take you to nai yang - get to dewa phuket resort and turn left, it's about 50metres up the road or so, after the national park food stalls. i've added it to google maps so you can find it more easily :)) anyway, the ruan mai beach is a tiny slip of a resort with about a dozen bamboo bungalow rooms totally out of place in phuket these days - but it works! you have just a short step to cheap national park on the one side, or to expensive farang restaurants for the russian package tourists on the other. the beach is lovely and great for a morning swim before you hop on a plane! these are not the most secure of bungalows and the step *is* ridiculous and potentially dangerous for oldies down to the bathroom. but for backpackers, no dramas. there were a lot of dogs barking (night before full moon maybe why?) but otherwise we had a quiet time and had a nice dinner on the beach nearby. good wifi too. we loved it but then we were well aware what to expect and it wasn't so hard to find because we had some idea where to go from previous reviews.

Great for somewhere close to the airport”

We flew in to Phuket really late so we wanted somewhere super close to the airport, and this worked fine. The room they gave us had not been cleaned from the previous guests, but even though it was 11:30 pm, as soon as we told the lady at the front desk, she was super apologetic and switched us to a new room. In the morning the people that live in an apartment above the motel did a taxi servie for us to the pier for a good price. For what we paid and what we needed, it was great.

Ok hotel”

we stayed in this hotel because we had early morning flight.it's only few minutes to the airport.the hotel is really basic.clean and service was friendly.they took us to the airport. it's 15 minutes walking to the beach and the area is really nice. we didn't like generally phuket so much but this area was exception. not so many people, really relaxed, long beach.

Close to the airport, but far from the beach.”

this is a cheap place to stay for a day or two before you fly out of phuket. they have a movie channel if you just want to stay in your room and rest up before your journey home. the hotel has two names which can be confusing. the staff are very kind and helpful. you have to walk far to get to places to eat. the closest beach does have lots of choices for dining.

Excellent private room with 5 mins from the Airpor”

Hotel was 5 mins from the airport and when I got there at 9pm they organised a motorbike for so after a quick brush up i could get down to Noi Yang Beach 5 mins where there was plenty of restaurants and bars. Next morning I went there again and had breakfast and enjoyed a walk and swim before heading back to the hotel and continuing my journey

Budget hotel 5mins drive from the airport”

Stayed for one night (close to midnight till the morning) as I had extra 8 hrs to kill, the place has everything you would expect from a budget hotel. The room was well maintained and had no problems with hot water as well. One thing I didn't fancy much was with the bed sheets, didn't have the confidence to go into the bed so I used my own towel to sleep on the bed (esp. If u stayed in the resorts in the previous nights lol)

small room but okay, aircondition in room. wifi in room was not working, too weak signal. i arrived late and left early in the morning so i did not have time to check out the surroundings. hotel has taxi service, which is good because of the taxi mafia in phuket.

Very close to the airport”

we are living in the very 'natural villa' of this hotel. very close to the airport and receptionist service is very good facility a little old and space very limited. compare to the price, the hotel is okay

Nice, close to airport”

Our stay was short, just one night, but the service friendly. We didn't get to the hotel until midnight but when we arrived the owner came out to greet us and show us to our room. The room was okay, nothing wrong with it, and everything worked. They did our best to answer our questions about directions the next morning. Overall, it was an okay stay and super close to the airport if that is of importance!

Tiny bungalows, well located on beach”

we needed a cheap room for one night to catch an early flight out of phuket airport. this was the cheapest option we could find, as phuket is not cheap. there are actually 2 different hotels advertised here under the same name and they are not close to each other, so we ended up paying 2 taxi fares. we stayed in the beach bungalows, which were very built in new bamboo and well located right on the beach. however, everything about them was in miniature (doors, veranda, benches, floor space, height). the 2 exceptions to this are a huge step up to the veranda and a a 90 cm step down in to the bathroom, which was only broken by one concrete building block. this could be extremely dangerous for older people or anyone even slightly incapacited (or even if you had a few drinks!!!!) there was a decent sized new matress, but it was still in it's plastic wrapping and this made for a very sweaty sleep. this is a very basic accomodation and only suitable for one person or a quick overnight for 2.

Don't stay more than a night!”

This hotel is not on the beach, there are two hotels with similar (the same) names. Just to be clear, this hotel is very far away from anything and you will need a tuk tuk at least one way (from the beach or wherever you go) as it is a long hot walk with nothing around. Only way I'd recommend this place is if you need a bed, are coming in really late and leaving really early. I came in around 2pm from khao lak and left at 6:30 am the next day for the airport - this was too long to stay at this place and at this beach area in particular. Had I known, I would have stayed longer in khao lak before going there as there is nothing for attractions (poor shops, pricy food, not so great beach). Everything in this town seemed overpriced. The resort had trouble with my reservation at first, I was dealing with a guy who was sleeping and didn't understand what I was asking, had to ask two other people for assistance. Everything Was sorted within 15 min. At this time I booked an airport taxi for the next day with the guy who was sleeping. The next morning I went to reception to wait in the morning, 15 min early. No one arrived by 6:30 so I asked reception and she had to go wake the guy up to take me. Good thing I asked.

very hard to find even for locals”

had the basics we came to appreciate and not to take for granted like a mini fridge, hot water, wifi and a closet. arrived at phuket airport and found it difficult to find anyone who has heard of the place so obviously couldn't drive us there or offer us a fair price in a taxi. was only 5 mins from the airport. no restaurant which turned out great in the search for coffee in the morning as we found a nicer spot and closer to the beach. I would not stay in a hotel without a pool if it was not on the beach anymore. No services here.

Don't stay here unless you are forced to”

We stayed here for a nIght before moving elsewhere. We arrived and a woman shouted at us in Thai for about ten minutes telling us we were at the wrong place. We showed her or agoda confirmation with the address. Finally they found a room. The room was acceptable for the cheap price. The next morning we asked the man at the desk to please call us a taxi to it next destination. He obviously just called a mate, who turned up with his car and quoted a price double what we had been told to expect. The hotel man just laughed at us. So we walked fifty meters down the road and got one for half price.

Very Disappointed”

Unfortunately our stay here was not very good. To start with the hotel is about 3 km away from where it is shown on the map which meant a long walk with our bags along a busy road. Next dont expect the place to look like it does in the pictures! as the pictures are of its sister resort located on the beach which i think is very misleading. On arrival the reception was unmanned and there is no sign of any restaurant. Wifi did not work and staff (when there) were basically useless. The place is in a poor location on a busy road with no path so you have to walk along it and down a mud path to get to the beach, a good 15 minute walk, you feel quite vulnerable at night. It was also very quiet there so we felt alone and isolated which did not make us feel safe. The room was however very nice, clean, good size. only downside was the huge pillows which gave a sore neck in the morning.

Big, Clean and located near the Airport.”

Room is big and clean. Simple setup with Air-Cond and fan. Wifi signal is poor as my room was far from access point. It's 10 min from airport, caused me 200B for the ride. The only issue is food. I had to walk to the beach to find food.

Great location with simple room”

I lived in the bamboo bungalow. It is just by the beach,2min walk to the small town and 5min drive to airport. The room is very small and dark that if two people standing inside will feel difficult to turn around.There is a over high step from bathroom to room, so I think its not suit for old people.

Convenient for catching an early flight.”

the resort has two different types of room and we end up staying in one of the bamboo beach huts. we were only looking for a place to stay overnight since we had an early flight to catch so we didn't get to see much of the surroundings apart from the beach front restaurants nearby. the room was fairly clean but extremely basic as you could expect from a bamboo hut. small doors in both the front of the room and specially for the bathroom makes it a bit inconvenient. watch out for the big step down into the bathroom. it looks like the normal rooms could be a better choice.
