Breathe of Fresh Air”
We were looking for a place somewhere in the outskirts of Beijing to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were attracted by the stellar reviews that this hotel has received. When we showed up on the day we were pleasantly surprised by how much improvement the local roads that led us to the hotel. We thought for a moment we were visiting the countryside in Europe. The Brickyard Hotel has been operating for over 10 years. The owners have done a great job in maintaining the place that everywhere we went around the hotel we could see thoughts and efforts being put in it. We were told that the pandemic has affected the business quite a lot so the hotel has rooms to spare during the time we stayed and they offered to upgrade us to a suite at Sansa Retreat which is a sister hotel next door to Brickyard. We first inspected the regular room we booked at Brickyard which was small but very tastefully decorated. We were then showed the suite at Sansa which was so much more spacious plus some terrace outdoor space. It was a tough decision as we liked both places but we chose the Sansa suite more so because of the outdoor space the room offered. Words could not describe how much we enjoyed our stay especially at night when we could stay on the terrace when everywhere was almost pitch-dark. We could watch the stars and the clear sky above us which was like a dream come true. We couldn’t wait to have another opportunity to stay in this great Chinese hotel again and to enjoy the hospitality from such a fine team of hotel staff. We couldn’t be more grateful to have found this gem. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Hidden Gem near the Mutianyu Great Wall”
The highlight of my short trip to Beijing was my stay at Brickyard Retreat. The staff was wonderful. I had numerous itinerary issues and Brickyard was willing to work with me to ensure that I was able to enjoy a stay with them. Special thanks to Josh and Raj for helping me with my booking and transportation needs. Brickyard has a lovely restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the dishes I had were delicious and there were many choices to choose from. The grounds of the property allowed me to sit outside and relax while sipping my tea and coffee. The rooms were welcoming, comfortable and beautifully decorated. My favorite aspect of the Superior Queen room was all of the windows. I will certainly stay here again.

Great Escapade”
The hotel is very secluded but good for those who seeks solace with a beautiful view of the great wall and mountains. The hotel is located very near to the Mutianyu Great Wall which is pretty much devoid of the hoards of tourist. It was a pleasant visit and the stay is comfortable. Expect connectivity to the modern world is limited but the staff is very helpful and hospitable in any way a typical village lifestyle in rural China. One of the most memorable stay while visit Beijing, thus this is my second time revisiting Mutianyu.

Beautiful place, great food, views of the wall”
We only had one night here, and unfortunately Beijing rolled out its smog for us, so our views were very diminished. See my comments at the end about wall visit arrangements, to avoid t he same thing. I was very impressed by the quality of our rooms and the hotel in general. The food lunchtime food was great both days, very fresh and local ingredients. We also did their Saturday buffet/BBQ option which I was less impressed by (I'm not a meat-eater, so understandable). Rooms were modern, spacious, large shower-room, and small courtyard. My only criticism is that our reason to stay up by the wall was to get ahead of the Sunday tour buses from Beijing. When we asked about getting a morning taxi up there, we were told there was a 9am shuttle that they organise and we should go on that. As it turned out, there was an earlier one which we weren't told about. And then out 9am didn't leave until almost half past, and then gave some guests a lift to their villa before dealing with us. This was even though they knew I was getting a bit agitated about being delayed, and was told we'd be taken up first. This meant by the time we got to the ticket offices, it was already a chaotic throng. We had been told the driver would sort out the tickets for us, but he didn't at all - just stood and watched us deal with the crowds (in the end I just pushed to the front as the only people getting anywhere were doing that - I tell you, it's a dog eat dog world out there sometimes!). And then he ran us up to the middle car park (as far as he was allowed to drive) and we walked up from there. The other thing I thought was disappointing was there are actually two different cable cars, one is like a ski chair lift and one is a proper cable car. Turns out they're different companies, so you have to get the right ticket or you can't get on. The hotel obviously knows all this, so I don't know why they don't explain things like that - and the pros/cons of each one (because they deliver you to a diffe

Magical”
I only wish I had arrived earlier in the day so that I could have enjoyed the brickyard for longer. The cosy room with a roaring fireplace and comfy seats was wonderful, and to see the wall through well placed mirrors and windows at every angle was a magical treat. Being able to fall asleep looking at the blanket of stars shining through the window was a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Being so close to the wall allowed a brilliant opportunity to walk in the best part of the day. All in all the brickyard was wonderful and I'd highly recommend it to other travelers!

I was looking for a htl like this in China for 25 yrs”
This place looks lil bit pricey at the very first sight. But after you visit you know that the one and only reason is that perfection comes at cost. It is super quiet, you can see Great Wall not only from bed but even from bathroom, and the fragrance of jasmine trees gives it a special atmosphere which the fragrant sticks could never achieve. And the design .. Ah! Uh! Oh! Amazing! A boutique hotel at its best and a living proof what Michelangelo is quoted to say:"Perfection lies in the details, in the smallest things. But perfection is not a small thing at all." We did not have food, only bkfst. (As a lover of good coffee, I could imagine slightly better coffee than the brew from that typical China-coffee-pot, but that would really be the only thing which in my opinion was not perfect.) Thx Brickyard and I will be definitely back!

Perfect Great Wall Experience!”
I will definitely return to this hotel. It's in the most perfect location and you can see the Great Wall from your room if you book a room with a GW view, the bed is very comfortable, restaurant food is delicious, and the foot & body massages at the spa were some of our best ever. The only downside is the bathroom toilet lacks a door, so it can make it a bit awkward, although we just laughed at it or left the room when the other person needed privacy. They provide eye masks for the plenty of windows which is great. The front desk speaks perfect English and helped us immensely with great wild section routes, taking us to/from the wall, and back to Beijing or the bus stop if you'd like. We took a taxi from Beijing and they found it no problem. A beautiful hotel built with a lot of love that is apparent in every detail. Highly recommend!!

Brickyard Retreat with a Beautiful view of the Great Wall”
Great place to stay if your visiting the Great Wall. the building has a lot of history and modern amenities. The hotel staff were very polite and tended to all your needs during your stay with them. They have a shuttle to the Great Wall and the food in there restaurant was very good make sure you have a glass of wine or a glass of beer near the cozy fire place. This part of my amazing experience visiting the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Will highly recommend this place to family and friends.

Perfect place to base yourself for a trip to the w”
Fantastic boutique hotel just a stone's throw from a fantastic spot to explore the Great Wall of China. Really cannot say enough good things about the Brickyard. It is stylish but not trendy, staff were helpful and friendly (thank you Raj and Sam! my children are still talking about both of you), rooms have lovely views of the mountains, plenty of places for the children to run around and play, too far to walk to the base of the mountains to take the cable car to the top of the Wall, but they provide easy shuttle service. We did not want to leave after 2 nights. Note there are no adjoining/connected rooms, which is a challenge for a family of 4 or more, but they do have rental houses.

Excellent and peaceful”
We stayed in this lovely retreat-like accommodation for only one night. We wish we could have stayed for a week. Everything was lovely, clean, and so convenient for visiting the Great Wall. The food was wonderful. Our room had a lovely view of the Wall with a small but pretty courtyard in front. We had an amazing foot massage at the spa. Highly recommended. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had some difficulty getting back from the Wall and a minor delay checking out, but it did not take away from our wonderful stay.

Close to Mutianyu Great Wall”
We stayed here for 3 nights, I love the room with Mutianyu Great Wall. The decorations are great ! But for me they should provide enough amenities in the room as enough as 5 stars hotels. And the price for foods and spa should be lower or special discount for the room guest. The location very close to Mutianyu. But too far from the city, town to find and too quiet area.

Great Wall - Mutianyu and Village Hike”
I would recommend it for its location for accessing the Great Wall and the village walks near to the hotel. It was very peaceful and rural. Couldn't see the Wall from the room though. Hotel provides a car shuttle to and from the Wall entrance which is a few minutes drive. For comfort, I would prefer to have higher curtains because you could see the trees waving in the wind at night although they did provide some eye covers (I just don't like sleeping with eye covers on!). For food, the dumplings were great. The menu is dominated by Western food (burgers and pasta) though if the Hotel is aiming for a more authentic feel, I would have preferred more local street food or other Beijing food options. It would also have been nice to do some yoga or tai chi but it wasn't available during the week days which is when I was staying. The family room was also an oddity because the two rooms were enclosed inside another door. Would have preferred easier access to the children's room.

Honeymoon Travel”
We stayed here for one night during our honeymoon stay in China. We really loved this cute little place. It is close to the Great Wall of China Mutianyu section. We had little problems as the hotel staff was super friendly and accommodating and went out of their way. Would highly recommend this place

Exceptional”
Very little choices for meals at the restaurant, but can cook in the house. Lots of mosquitoes. Nice yard, very clean, good view of the Great Wall, but during COVID, route to the Wall thru the village is closed, need to go from main entrance. No curtain for many windows, not friendly for little kids or anyone who desires a good morning sleep.

Had a wonderful stay here, beautifully designed and laid out, great rooms, shuttle bus worked really well to the wall and restaurant in the evening. Only negative thing was the price of the food in the restaurant.

Nice place, poor value”
The Brickyard is a good place for travellers who speak no Chinese, do not eat Chinese food and are OK with being overcharged. I liked the resort in fact. It was an interesting location. However, it is clearly best for those who need help getting around and will pay a lot for the priveledge of having everyone speak English. In the end, it was very pleasant but not really for me.
