Just a stone’s throw away from The Bund and Nanjing area”
Booked a double room. Affordable rate compared to other hotels in the area. Not luxurious but clean and spacious

Perfect for solo backpacking”
The location is just perfect. 30 mts from the Bund's best view. You have to walk 5 blocks to the closest subway station which is also the beginning of Nanjing Road. I stayed in the shared rooms and it was kinda dirty. The bed itself was perfect, but the other visitors were kind of the problem with their smelly foods and bodies(?) lol. They give you a bracelet that opens the room and the locker. It worked well. The building looks kinda old on the inside. There were washing machines in the bathroom. Theres a bar at the top of the building, so expect some noise at weekend nights and also alot of visitors in the stairs those hours.

Excellent Location”
If you're looking for an affordable hostel located in The Bund area, this is perfect for you. The rooms are clean but the toilet's are kinda smelly. We arrived around 2am and there's a grumpy guy sleeping at the lobby. We had to wake him up to call the sleeping receptionist to process our check-in. Overall it's a good hostel because of affordability and location.

Value for money”
The hostel is walking distance from the mrt. Very convenient in travelling around SG. You get the value for what you paid for. If you are on a budget, this is a good place to stay.

Above average”
Location of this hostel is amazing. Unfortunately staff does not speak English or very poor English, they are also not nice. Big plus is a rooftop bar, which has awesome view of the skyline. Hostel is very cold, windows are open everywhere - not sure why. Bathrooms are cleaned but look pretty nasty, just like rooms. It’s worth staying there, because of price and location.

Above average”
Good location and pleasant for basic stay. Amenities to the minimum (No toilet paper, bathroom condition not really good, and lots of mosquitos in the bunks, and it was in Winter, so might be worse during summer. Pub opposite may get noisy at night, so prepare earplugs. Also, there might be uninvited solicitors nearby for services. Walking distance to Bund and Nanjing Road

Everything is BAD except location. Totally not like a youth hostel! just a budget hotel.”
We get room on level 6, it is a extended floor on rooftops and next to backdoor of the pub. room wall is dirty, smelly toilet, aircond compressor is below window therefor cannot open window as well. unfriendly staff, operate by a owner and run business like budget hotel. Totally not a youth hostel kind of operation. A lotz people stay long term as they could not afford the rental at shanghai.

Not satisfied”
This is not a good venue for laowai travelers to stay. There is no social space, the help desk is not very nice either. No toilet paper. And it is located between the Bund and Nanjing Road which are well known to be swarming with scum that are especially trying to rip off vulnerable solo male laowai travelers

The most horrible hostel in the world!”
confirming everyone else’s posts regarding roaches and black mold, the only things that are heated are your rooms in the winter time. The hallways are essentially outside the bathrooms are not heated and outside the showers are not heated and outside. I was amazed to have a little hot water, but if you don’t want to catch an ammonia don’t stay here! Also five minutes after 12 noon the management burst into our room and demand that we leave because we hadn’t paid for the extra day. It didn’t matter that it was New Year’s day and all of us Were hung over from the rooftop party the night before, which we spent a lot of money. But this hostel l is actually horribly located, because there is no way to get to the other side of the buns unless you walk four blocks to the nearest subway station! You may as well stay at a better hospital closer to a subway station to get you across the bond or else the taxi driver will scam you 200 Rmb To get across when it’s snowy outside

Homeless man sleeping on my bed upon arrival”
The hotel staff has very poor english. When i went to my bunk bed, a homeless mam was sleeping on it. It took about am hour to get the man out of the room. If i didn't ask, they will still let me sleep on the same bed with the same sheets. They transferred me to another bed with used bed sheets as well because it smells really bad. The place is a dorm for local people and not an actual hostel. Lots of personal belongings all over the building (in the hall way, inside the room, hanging on the walls outside rooms, everywhere. Laundry are left all over the place). NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL EVEN IF YOU'RE ON A BUDGET. The property is very low in quality. take it only if you are desperate. Good reviews here was from years ago.

Solo at Captain hostel”
I found that Captain hostel and Shanghai in general catered well for Chinese tourists but not so well for non-Chinese speaking. Traveling alone I expected more suggestions of things to do from the hostel itself, probably coloured by my experiences at hostels in other countries (first time in China). I asked staff for a map and got a good English one which was great. When I asked how I could book an airport shuttle, the staff member I talked to didn't understand/know (and the Internet wasn't much help either) so I ended up taking public transport. I wouldn't go back to China again on my own, it all felt very hard.
