Fantastic from head to toe”

The Cranley Hotel is perfectly located with the Glouster Metro Station a few blocks away. We ate there the first night and had one of the best meals of our trip. The staff was lovely and super attentive. Now that is what customer service is about. I would stay here again for sure.

Everything

Great hotel, excellent service, well appointed and cared for rooms, great amenities, excellent staff, great food. Travelers must understand nothing in London is actually worth its weight, you always pay a premium. For this hotel and location, the premium was well worth it.

Great hotel”

We spent two night in the executive room. It is really a great hotel. the room is clean and comfortable. we even have living room space in the room. However, the price is including breakfast, but don't expect to much, there is even no choice to the breakfast, only toast and croissant, and hot drinks and fruit juice. The receptionist at night is no helpful, we called to ask a hairdryer, but no one gave it to us. We got it in the next day.

Allows one to feel as the way London might have been in the past”

Classic Victorian feel. We choose to stay here because I wanted to feel like I was in London. Our double room was huge with a tall ceiling, floor to ceiling windows and a thing massive drapes. Mini fridge in room was nice. Nicer to have a micro too, but did not. Continental breakfast only. Staff was cordial and accommodating. Classic old style bathroom hardware added to period feel. Your room key is a real key that looks like the old Skelton key. Very nice, safe neighborhood. You are just 4 minutes walk to the Gloucester Rd. tube. This line goes directly into central London and requires no train change which was nice. Easy in and out of the city. The business area around the tube station has everything one needs; cafes, restaurants, convenience store. There is even a florist shop just next to the entrance to the tube with fresh bouquets splashed about in front. We would stay here again.

Quiet, relaxing and a Good value!”

The property was lovely and very close to a few restaurants, cafes and a tube station. However it’s not close to most tourist attractions so transportation time could be long, and costly if going by taxi. We were on the 4th floor and hot water in the shower was spotty as well as the elevator service, so if you have difficulty with stairs it’s probably best to let them know, as they didn’t ask. Beautiful, clean rooms with a/c and clean and mini bar. Definitely enjoyed our stay here! If you’re looking for a quiet, upscale neighborhood to relax this is your place! If you want a more upbeat place, close to the action, bars, etc, you may want to look closer to central London.

Nice with some improvements to be made”

The location of the hotel is great and the area is lovely. Very practical and close to the Tube. The hotel is nice and of good value for this area in London. The room was small and could have used some improvements (carpet was so old and worn-out there were entire pieces missing) but overall it was comfortable and nice. The person at reception in the morning was lovely but the lady in the evening who helped me check-in was very unfriendly - same when I ordered room service. The food was quite nice. I think a few minor improvements in the attitude of the staff and refurbishing some very old carpet/tapestry would have made me give 5 stars to everything.

Traditional English hotel with exceptional service”

quiet location, well-maintained, professional staff

I thoroughly recommend this property, and can't imagine any traveler being unsatisfied, with the exception of those seeking an "in house" dining area. Room service is available, but the only place outside of a room to eat is in the lobby of the hotel. Rooms were carefully maintained and comfortable -- not large (by US standards) but not small (by UK standards).

Above average”

While the location was great, there really wasn't anything else I liked about The Cranley Hotel. I'm sorry but it was disappointing and perhaps due to it being an old building. The photos look very clean and elegant and I thought it would be very "English" however it felt dirty and I was uncomfortable there. The running water kept surging so it was difficult to wash our hands and to take a shower. Also, we were given bath towels but no hand towels nor washcloths.

Comfort, Helpful Staff, Location

This is a hidden gem -- like staying in a stately home (if I knew anyone who owned one). It really has the feel of a private home and I felt like a treasured invited guest. The staff at reception were infinitely helpful, polite and good-natured. The room was cosy and ingeniously arranged -- it was rather small but did not feel cramped at all. I was very pleased to have a real bathtub. Breakfast delivered to my room precisely on schedule was always perfect. (Did not eat any other meals here.) Levels of cleanliness perfect. Very close to public transportation, lots of restaurants and shops.

Older hotel, clean with nice staff”

We booked this hotel because it came up as "close to Paddington Station, which it is not and which was disappointing. The hotel was fine although if you stay in the side without the lift be prepared to haul your bags up three flights of narrow stairs. The room was clean, old but comfortable. The price was fine. We only stayed overnight (once in and once on the way out of the UK) but would book there again.

Has seen better days”

The hotel appears "tired" (the caning on a couple of chairs was broken; the carpeting in the lobby is badly stained; the wardrobe chests are dinged up and have torn drawer sheets lining them; the fabric headboards are stained; and the walls need repainting, to name a few of the things we noticed). The air conditioning noted on the website is a portable unit that vents through an open window and needed to be emptied and thoroughly cleaned as it was black with mildew. It was also noisy and barley effective at cooling the room. The wifi was intermittant in our room. The "shower" required a step up and over the side of an old tub. On the plus side, the staff was very nice and helpful when they could help and the beds were comfortable.
