The staff were really friendly and experienced top-notch service. The view of the bund from the room was quite good and the room was very clean. Great location, very close to the pearl tower. Front staff were really friendly and always greeted with a smile. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay here the next time I return to Shanghai.

Exceptional”
Very clean and luxurious hotel with fantastic amenities in the room and attentive staff - great value for money. We ate delicious food at the Italian restaurant within the hotel. The hotel is a short (8-10 minutes) walk to Lujiazui metro station which made it very convenient to get to various parts of the city. Was about an hour each way to get to the Formula 1 Circuit by metro. There is a 7-Eleven and some restaurants a short walk from the hotel. Only complaint is that the ATM in the Hotel Lobby did not allow transactions using several of our cards that we tried (both Mastercard and Visa) which was annoying as many vendors around Shanghai did not accept these cards either and we needed cash!

I was looking for a good 5 star hotel in Pudong near the TV tower and the shopping mall. The hotel must be very new and the price was an excellent offer for the service and standard offered. I hope they can keep this level in the future and will return next time I visit Shanghai.

Great hotel, good size rooms and good facilities”
Stayed here for the weekend and hardly left the hotel. We stayed in a Red Level room which gave us access to a seperate lounge and resturant. Service here was excellent, staff very friendly and attentive and facilities very good also. Couldnt really fault it apart from it being so nice we didnt want to go out and explore the madness of Shanghai. I suppose if being really critical the location isnt ideal. Its on the other side of the Bund in the Financial area. Unfortunately most Shanghai cab drivers have no idea how to get anywhere and only speak Shanghainese. My girlfriend speaks 6 different Asian languages and still we found it difficult to explain the the taxi drivers where it was. This however is probably more to do with Shanghai taxi drivers than the hotel. Would definately return and Recommend.

I have stayed there for many years even before it was the Grand Kempinski. Everything is great but be warned about the Gift Shop beside the Cigar shop. The same guy has been saying for 2 to 3 years that the shop is closing down in 2 days to become a flower shop. This is a big LIE. The items in the shop are over priced by 99% and he tries to give you a 95% discount. Even at 95% this is WAY too much. He tries to make it appear the items are of very high value for a very low cost. But they are NOT, they are cheap products made to look like expensive relics.

Good Hotel But Beware Of Some Arrogant Hotel Staff Members”
I had the Deluxe Bund View Room which was spacious and had a good view of The Shanghai Bund, especially during the night. The housekeeping staff members were doing well and always replenished the amenities. The hotel check-in counter/front desh staff members were also friendly and helpful. But there was one hotel staff, Mr. Robby Song (tall and arrogant person), was not helpful at all to help me to get any taxi while he was on duty. He just pretended to assist me but in fact he did not do anything to assist me, just standing and waiting for a taxi to come to the hotel. At the end, I just took a walk to go to the closest Shanghai Metro station to take the subway. However on the next day, when I want to get a taxi, I found a different staff on duty, Mr. Arnold Liu. He was polite and very helpful to get me a taxi. In a very short time, I got my taxi. Thanks to Mr. Arnold Liu who just made my day brighter.

a true 5-star hotel with great service”
Hotel is a true 5 or 6* type. The decor is good, not in the usual strange Chinese mix. Hotel is located near the Pearl Tower, about 15 mins walk. There is a new street earthere that Shanghai is trying to promote as a upmarket eat street. The erstaurants look good from the outside but I didn't try. Hotel is not very convenient for other activities, being in the middle of the office area. The subway is 10-15 mins away, taxis are available but they can pick passengers depending on destinations. This is SH. The interior of rooms are very well appointed and very comfortable, including the desk/chair. Staff is super helpful and super efficient. I stayed here before the name change (Gran Melia) and it didn't disappoint this time.

Great Location & Good Size Room”
Gran Melia is close to all things that matter when it comes to holidaying. It is next to Shanghai Aquarium and the Pearl Tower, the iconic landscape of the city of Shanghai. It's within walking distance to high rise observation towers such as Jinmao and the Shanghai World Financial Centre, to the city scenic bus stop, to the malls and convenient stores. And most importantly, it is close to the most convenient Line 2 subway station that stops at both Pudong & Hong Qiao airports, Hong Qiao railway station, and the tourist must-go places such as Yu Yuan Garden, Nanjing Road and Jing An temple.

Haven't heard much of Kempinski before but was delightfully surprised by the quality of the place. Kempinski is like the nearby Hyatt, minus the finer details that make Hyatt the superb quality hotel that it is. That being said, much of those finer details doesn't necessary significantly add the quality of the stay. So if you don't care much of that then Kempinski is great for you, and for your wallet (comparatively speaking).

Very nice hotel , after taking over management from Gran Melia ( ex hotel name), Kempinski managing the hotel in very good way. It is conveniently located in main business district of Pudong, walking distance from shops, shangri-la. I have previously stayed many times in Shangri-la Pudong, but now prefer this hotel as service is same and price much cheaper.

Great 5-star hotel for a decent price”
So this hotel is very new and of good quality. Some of the art is a bit tacky, but it's cool to have a vase in your hotel room as well. The shower worked very well, which I rank as a high priority. I couldn't figure out the TV, which was a bit too complicated for me. I am a structural engineer so I like to look at the details. The construction could be of a higher quality, but it is still nice. The hotel is located in Pudong area of Shanghai, which is good for business, but rather boring for life. Across the river is where the people live and have fun.

Underrated hotel in superb location, nice rooms”
superb location. situated in financial district along the huangpu river. right next to the pearl tower. easily accessible to pu dong airport when arriving and departing. close to liuzhai train station which is 2-3 stops from main attractions like yu garden, old shanghai, people's square, etc. walking distance to shanghai world financial center (100th floor walkway). food at the in-house restaurants in the hotel was good.

Nice Hotel and great service ”
nice rooms, nice hotel staffs, good location. hotel is near to the pearl tower and just next to the bund which will have a good view of the bund if you get the river view room. it is also near to the pudong business district which is ideal for business travellers as well. puxi is just a tunnel away and you can get to the other size of shanghai in minutes.

Pleasant staycation with no frills. ”
Pleasant stay but expected more quality from Grand Kempinski brand. The room should have better brands/ quality toiletries, bath salts and espresso machine and better tea bags than LIPTON. Flat screen was not upgraded to HD LCD. Discerning guests watch for these details when in a Kempinski not a Holiday Inn. WiFi access was not free either. The stay was fine but felt more like a good Holiday Inn or Courtyard Marriot than Grand Kempinski. Knowing I had a 5 year old child, an attentive guest system could have provided some toys or night milk. I guess this hotel operator has a tight budget landlord.

Location, location, location”
This is my regular hotel with great service whenever I travel to Shanghai until my last stay. A new receptionist unfamiliar with system took very long time to check me out (made some mistakes), took my credit card and then forgot to return my credit card which she kept with her in the inner side of reception desk. I was without credit card for a few days during my travel. When I returned to Shanghai to collect my credit card all the French manager could offer was only a very casual sorry and passed my card to me. It's about his attitude which was not sincere and sympathetic that really put me off. He even said it was my mistake for not checking and asking back my credit card and not the hotel's mistake. This is not acceptable for a 5 star international hotel. So I booked another hotel for my final days of business in Shanghai. I really like this hotel but not sure I will stay here again. Hence I give rating of 1 to staff performance (mainly due to the unprofessional attitude of the French manager).

overall great hotel for someone who needs to be based in pudong for either work or leisure. about 5 minutes walk to oriental pearl tv tower and 10 minutes to shanghai ifc. not a lot of service staff but generally friendly and reasonably prompt.
