“Excellent location, Clean hotel, Good staff”
We had a bit of a hiccup upon check-in because Agoda didn't specify that the Deluxe Room for 3 people did not have a window. I had sent the hotel a message to confirm that the room had a window, because I read in the reviews that it could get stuffy during winter since the hotel had central air, and they turn off the AC during winter. The hotel did not respond by the time I could cancel the reservation without penalties, so I assumed they have read my request to ensure that the room had a window, even if small, just so we could get fresh air, if needed. Big mistake! Apparently, the hotel does not read any messages from Agoda (our Agoda hotel in Taipei did, and responded efficiently). *** assisted us upon arrival and kept repeating that we "only booked a deluxe room, so it doesn't have any windows" as if our hotel room was cheap (it was not! the Savoy Hotel across the street was way cheaper). I was close to getting angry, but thankfully, *** was very patient, albeit a little condescending, and the other Korean front desk agent was discussing to *** in Korean without interfering in my conversation with *** , so the situation did not escalate. In the end, they gave us our booked room with a "fake window" that opened to a wall (maybe it was a firewall of sorts). My husband and child ended up sleeping in their undies to offset the absence of cool air in the room, and the room was only stuffy a few times in the day. Breakfast was good, even if the menu never changed, because there were a lot of options to take. The staff at breakfast were all good too. The hotel looks like it was renovated recently, so it is clean. Our floor had a smoking room (never used), hot and cold water, and ice available, but we were given bottled water in our room everyday, and we had a percolator in the room, so those weren't relevant to us. Location? This is why I tolerated the absence of the window in our room (although I will not repeat the same mistake if I go back to Seoul during winter). We took the Airport Limousine Bus, and the stop at Myeondong Station Exit 6 was less than 5 minutes walk away. Using Uber to go to Insadong was no sweat. Our return flight was at 7am, so we took Uber at 4am by the Myeondong Station Exit 6. Easy and convenient. The hotel is right smack in the middle of Myeondong (shopping and food), but never far from the station or other public transport. The hotel lobby and guest rooms were located a few floors above the ground level, so noise was not a problem (maybe because we did not have a real window. lol), but the noise from the hall could definitely be heard inside our room. Fortunately, there weren't a lot, just doors closing and a few conversations. Overall, we did not regret booking this hotel, and will make different room choices if we get to book them again on our next visit.
