great hotel and part of the raffles chain. unfortunately china being china its run teh chinese way and not the way a 5 star opulent grand hotel with such a great reputation should be run. staff are poorly trained and instructed, it shows when you walk inside and they start hiding instead of saying hello like all otehr hotel staff do. the experience of staying in such a grand hotel needs to be followed through, but the staff fail it. inside the main entrance security guards stop guests from photographing the interior, its a crazy policy. this place has so much potential but needs an analytical business mind to get it pumping, not a govt communist static mind. the gift store doesnt sell any souvenirs of the historic hotel, cant understand why!! the jazz bar is great and lives up to the reputation. by far the most outstanding member is the assist director of food and bevrages miss. patricia. this lady is trying so much to improve the place howevever appears to be hitting her head against a brick wall with staff who dont perform. the jazz bar waiters though are so professional, best i have seen in years. the place needs a hip vibe rooftop bar to get things going as its got a great view of shanghai, pudonga nd the bund from the rooftop.

i was a bit apprehensive at first about the price tag of a night's stay at the hyatt on the bund, but as soon as i stepped into the lobby, i knew that it would be worth the splurge. the staff who greet you upon arrival are welcoming and helpful, then direct you to your room. mine had a king bed (comfier than most hotels in china) and a large bathroom, as well as views of the bund and huangpu river. i was a little disappointed that i could not see much of the pudong district, but when it got dark, my disappointment disappeared and i was surprised by how alive the city looked at night. the vue bar on the 33rd floor is well worth a visit, as are the pool and gym. breakfast in the 3rd floor is also a must, with a delicious array of western and asian cuisine. within walking distance of the bund, this hotel is definitely worth a visit.

Architecture and history buffs will love Bund Circle and spend hours researching its four spledid Art Deco buildings. The hotel interior is renovated 'Art Deco' - need I say more? - but the room we had was spacious and very well-appointed. The staff were very helpful indeed. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from East Nanjing Road metro station, that has connections to Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport and Railway Station. We can't comment on the hotel's dining room as we prefer to eat out. Down the road are local dumpling and noodle restaurants, and in the next block is Shanghai Grandmother - a bright and cheerful restaurant that sells authentic local food to tourists - not many Europeans, most tourists in China are Chinese. For many people, Jiangsu cuisine is China's finest, with its subtle, harmonious flavours and gentle (in Shanghai, not so gentle) sweetness. And next door is 'House of Blues and Jazz', a fantastic late night out - bands play from around 9.30. 50RMB cover charge

The exterior is colourful, to say the least, with the locals selling their wares in the laneway. We thought it was great. There were always people out there, and it felt very safe. Once inside, the hotel is much like any other really, and was clean and functional. We had a room facing the lane, and it was very quiet. The staff were great, spoke enough english, and were very helpful when needed. And the location was perfect. Very close to the tourist traps, but away from them. Not the fanciest hotel I've had in china, but the best.

This was my last stop in my 2 week in China. First time to Shanghai. The location was fantastic and easily reached from the Pudong Airport by subway (1hr). The bund is 15 min walk away. There is a giant mall for food and cheap clothing right by the subway station. The service was the best of 5 hotels I stayed in China. The staff were polite with excellent communication. I arrived early and the manager let me check in early even though it was a busy holiday weekend. The room is impeccable and very nicely decorated. From my window, I could see the Pudong skyline and the postal museum. Overall an excellent experience.

Excellent rating justified. Only concern I have is the rather unfriendly staff during checking who insisted I speak Chinese just because I am Asian, and demand that I produce my Hong Kong "home return permit" despite me entering China with a foreign passport (even immigration at China did not demand this so I was rather shocked to have a front desk hotel lady asking for this). Other than this hiccup, my stay here has been rather pleasant

The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai has renewed my faith in five star properties. Countless establishments the world over claim to be five star, but very few actually deliver. The WAS is everything one would expect from a top-end property. Pros: - The rooms are absolutely fantastic. They are huge and feature a multitude of modern luxuries. For example, centralized control of room lighting, AC, drapes, and alarms from a room automation console; TV built in to the mirror in the bathroom; web-enabled TV; and IT connections hub with cables included. The furnishings and amenities are all also top notch, as one would expect from Waldorf properties. - Service is excellent. Everyone we encountered in the hotel was very polite and extremely helpful. - Location on the Bund. The location cannot be beat for views, and proximity to tourist attractions such as Ya Yaun. Cons: - Entrance is obscure. The entrance to the hotel is from a small access lane that is not prominently marked. Not one cab driver was able to find the hotel without guidance from me. All-in-all, if you're going to Shanghai and are accustomed to staying five star, then you really need not look any further than the Waldorf Astoria.

This hotel was everything we expected. We booked online in a country we had never visited and were pleased with every aspect of the offerings at this hotel. When booking make sure you ask for non smoking room (if you want one) and definitely ask for a room with a river view - it is stunning. This hotel is not 5 star but does not claim to be. You walk out he door and you are on the Bund and it is a short taxi ride to many other interesting sites. If wifi is important to you then check availability. Some rooms have it, others you need to go downstairs and sit in the lobby to use it. We used the hotel transfer services as a group of 4 and they were very good. If there is only a couple it would be cheaper to use local taxis.

Reason for 5 stars. I hope everyone can read my story otherwise Agoda will take out my review Actual Overall star- 3 stars. Far from metro station, shabby entrance, dishonesty-read my story below. My rating is zero star for customer service when come to honesty, 5 stars if you are VIP clients. First, i can speak mandarin and read well (above moderate). This is what happened, i was told the room upgrade was 100rmb yuan which i remember vividly i did asked again before agreed to the room to be upgraded then the receipt was written 200rmb yuan. I smell something fishy then i asked why the receipt was written 200 rmb yuan. Then they told me it was 200 rmb yuan. So i asked for cancellation and want back my normal room then they counter offer me with 100rmb yuan. After their dishonesty, i sticked to the room i booked. My lesson, please let someone to read if it was written by the chinese. Their dishonesty is well known.

I have stayed in numerous 5-star hotels but my stay at the Peninsula Shanghai has highlighted the difference between a standard 5-star hotel, and a flagship hotel. The grounds and common areas are beautifully and tastefully designed. There is great attention to detail, and a lot of elements which please the senses while avoiding being gaudy which happens too often in these Shanghai properties. The pool, gym, and spa facilities are the best I've ever been to. Service at the pool is attentive without being intrusive. The design is immaculate. Music is played underwater in the pool. The rooms are the best part of the stay. Beds are some of the most comfortable I've slept in. In-room facilities are perfect. I also had the pleasure of using the inroom printer for work. Set-up is a breeze and convenience is unmatched. Even the most basic room is comparable to junior suites of other 4-star, 5-star hotels. The hotel is located at the end of the bund. This is an excellent location as it is further away from the very busy, tourist heavy areas and is significantly quieter than properties 2 or 3 blocks towards the center. If you are staying in Shanghai, and you have the budget, stay here.

Enjoy your stay in Shanghai at the Seagull. The front staff was busy and a little less than friendly but the concierge was great. He was able to inform us of train ticket options, and then offered to make reservations and pick them up. I was at a loss at how I could properly tip him for his wonderful help. Most hotel guests are Chinese - as they know a good deal, but proximity to the metro (about 15min could pose a problem with luggage). Reservations got mixed up thru Agoda offering a deluxe suite that ended up NOT having a river view - so we opted to receive a cheaper room that provided the view - And A Great View! Attempting to log in to my email acct. was troublesome from China -and required a backup, giving my Google acct. which is banned in China. Thus I was shut out. So make sure any copies needed are hard-copy.

This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in, and for a very cheap price. I have stayed in more expensive 4 star hotels which were not as good as the Elegance Bund Hotel. The rooms are very large and spacious, the bed is very comfortable, bathroom is fantastic, and best of all, everything is extremely clean. The staff are also friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect. Next time I am in Shanghai, I will definitely be staying here again.

I stay with my wife and daughter , The room is clean and small . breakfast is ok cause not so many choice but is still taste good. and the hotel is near the Attraction center called the yu garden ( 3 minuate walk from the hotel) which is a big shopping area . shopping in china you must know how to bargain . Another place you must visit while you are in shanghai is the tower where you can see the whole city from above but when we go there , we must qued for about an hour. Another place you must visit is the bund along the riverside, better go there in the evening around 5 so you can see the view while there is still sun and the view at night .

The hotel is very basic but is value for money due to the location. The rooms and hotel itself is run down (cracks in walls, dirty bathroom tiles, seat surfaces peeling off, very dirty underneath beds, hideous 'views' out the room windows), but is relatively quiet considering the location. There are many Chinese food options immediately outside the hotel, and you are within walking distance of The Bund and Nanjing East road pedestrian section. The negative: I am disappointed to report that we experienced very rude and unhelpful service: - Long wait times for service (i.e. 15-20 minutes of standing at the desk while they make phone calls/use their mobile phones) - Staff required to see all our passports (including those of our 2 year old and 4 year old children), and despite a trip to the local police station to resolve this (the police officers had no idea what the hotel staff were on about), refused to let us check in until my husband had commuted home to Suzhou (2 hour drive away) to get them. They then combed through our passports, and insisted on my finding the latest entry stamps into China (apparently seeing a valid visa was insufficient). - Staff attempted to put us into a smaller room than the business suite we had pre-booked and pre-paid for. After 40 minutes of explaining, receipt showing, viewings of smaller rooms, and finally a phone call to an english-speaking manager, we were finally shown to our pre-booked room. There was no reason given for any of this. - Refused to call taxis for us- when we asked, the female staff point-blank refused to call a taxi, though the male staff member who overheard us immediately called one for us.

River view highly recommended as this hotel has a very good view of the Bund day and night - worth the upgrade. Found the rooms nice and massive breakfast. Location was 5-7 minutes to "old side" of the Bund and 7-9 minute walk to the subway station. Many local restaurants around the corner. Reason Cleanliness/Facility rating was "good" and not "excellent was despite many non-smoking signs in the hallway one would always smell smoke and ashtrays near elevator showed signs of use (cleaned daily). Staff was pleasant but struggled a bit with English (both language and smokers are to be expected in China). Overall I would recommend and stay again. My family used this hotel for two different stays, two rooms each stay over a two week period, 8 days total.

This was one of the best hotel experience I have had in Shanghai for many years. As business traveller I don't need a vibrant neighborhood for the hotel I stayed, but a nice, comfortable room and easy access to other areas of Shanghai by taxi. Hotel staff are very helpful and with good English speaking skills; both interior and exterior of the hotel is 5-star, especially the bathroom. Shower is very powerful. For the price I paid, great value for money (when a 4-star could charge even more than this hotel if it locates at Nanjing Road). Only downside is it is not on the Bund but already passed the Bund on the north, and if you wanted to be close to the attractions you better take a taxi than walking.

Booked the hotel for the New Year's Eve fireworks display at The Bund but was truly bummed when we realized the hotel is located a good 10mins walk from the main strip (Don't get me wrong, the view is fabulous still). But hey, the hotel more than made up for it. The attention to details in the decor is truly unique and sets it apart from the numerous hotels we've stayed in China. The art pieces located in its lobby to the details in its room are its winning points. The fact that they sourced for locally-produced products in its in-room F&B and toiletries demonstrate their commitment to the local industry. The bed is a story in itself...probably the softest bed I have ever slept in China. And despite its relatively smaller size, the bathroom comes with a bath tub and rainforest shower to boot. The trip turned out to be far enjoyable than I could possibly wish for.
