Great location close to the DASH TEAK HOUSE ....Only complaint was 2 times for breakfast went to get coffee and no milk for espresso 2 days in row what's wrong with going to store very odd that was only thing about didn't seem to care to have the small things for guests and no coconuts

Travel just opened up”
This hotel has done many renovations during the coved19 downtime. The room we stayed in was completely redone with fresh paint and new aircon, new big screen tv, and refurbished bathroom. There was no one else staying there as travel has not opened to international tourist yet. The pool was beautiful. The restaurant had not opened yet as they were operating on bare bone staff. I believe we were the only ones staying at the hotel, but I am sure things will get back to normal for them soon. I have stayed there many times in the past 15 years and this is my favorite Guesthouse in Chiangmai.

Well kept grounds, bed springs popped into my hips, staff didn't acknowledge us much but cleaning staff was very kind. Shower had good pressure and hot water Restaurant prices for tourists.

A decent value. ”
Lai-Thai is located outside the moat of Old City Chiang Mai. It is convenient to Sunday and Saturday Walking Markets as well as all of Old Town. The property is somewhat dated but functional, especially at their price point. I have stayed there about 4 times.

Loved this place, despite many flaws”
So many flaws in this old-fashioned Thai hotel but I still loved it. The ground plan is so nice: open courtyard with a gorgeous tiled pool in the center, lanterns that are lit up at night at the entrance, great architectural details in the wood terraces flanking the courtyard, and a cafe at the entrance that is open to the public (breakfast, lunch and dinner available at extra charge). The rooms were old, small; the bathrooms were rudimentary and everything inside the bathroom gets terribly wet. Nonetheless, it's such a charming place and the pool is so relaxing. We booked a pool view room on Agoda but when we showed up we were given the back rooms that literally faced a tire shop and barbed wire fence. We complained and they told us they didn't have a pool view room so we had to wait a couple days before we could be moved. It was worth it to move! Barbed wire is not good for the soul. Location was excellent. Plenty of restaurants and shops and we even found a great dentist nearby.

Outdated facility”
Outdated guesthouse (not a hotel!) from the 1950s. Only modernization was aircon and wifi, otherwise everything very old. A disappointment for us. Rooms very loud all day and night due to street noise. No good sleep therefore! Bed old and noisy, the walls are paper thin, bathroom very old. We couldn’t turn off the water on the tap properly so it was dropping all the time. Ownership obviously doesn’t care about the facility any more. No recommendation at all.

Booked a room days earlier and got the booking confirmation via email just for the staff to tell me that they didn’t have my booking. It was during a festival so almost all the hotels were fully booked. I picked this hotel because it was walking distance from where i wanted to go to but instead had to get a hotel that was far away. The staff said that they longer do bookings from agoda but the hotel can still be viewed in Agoda. And it wasn’t just me, other guest also had a hard time dragging their luggages to find another hotel during peak season:

A wonderful guesthouse that makes you feel at home! Lai-Thai is located right within the walls of the old city and close to markets and restaurants. The guesthouse also offers day trips at an additional cost to really enjoy the beauty of Chiang Mai. Definitely recommend Lai-Thai to groups of friends traveling and would stay here again!

Location + Pool give Great Value !”
Staying at LAI-THAI GuestHouse, located just east of the Old City Moat, was an easy choice, due to the Pool, easy + convenient Location, and the Good Value. The staff are friendly, and are willing to help. The rooms are a bit on the small size, tho do-able. The guesthouse itself is definitely aging, tho yet clean ! The 'mini-bar,' HOT shower, and telephone all worked fine. The TV was untouched. The AC worked well. My room was to the side of the pool, yet afforded privacy by the window-height hedge. The Jalousie-style windows did have screens. The room was quiet from rooms on either side, tho sounds were heard from guests on the floor above. i was visited by a cockroach in the bathroom, and it was escorted down the shower drain! I chose to eat 'outside,' so am without any resto experience. When needed, a tuk-tuk was quite easy to get, just outside the guesthouse. As the Old City area is 'condensed' it was easy and close to walk to Wat Sum Pao for GOOD-PRICED massage, as well as the temple across the street, for the Friday Night market and the Sunday Walking Market --along Ratchadamnoen (sp). I recommend Lai-Thai for travellers looking for a clean pool at a Good Value price !

Review of my time at Lai-Thai G/H”
Nice pool, quaint wooden architecture, good location. (9 out of 10) Was not sure what to expect after reading some negative comments but I was really surprised how pleasant the guest house was for the price. The reception areas and swimming pool was very clean and tidy - so was the room and I found the reception staff very helpful and friendly. The building had a quaint old fashioned feel to it with wooden floorboards and the walls were made of a sort of bamboo matting. Everything worked (didn’t try the TV though), bed was OK and room cleaned and new towels every day. Location is just outside the old city wall (what’s left of it) by the moat and within easy reach of the night bazaar and other amenities (about 10 mins walk). I originally booked for two nights but extended to four and would certainly recommend Lai-Thai for backpackers or general visitors looking for quality accommodation at a reasonable price and with good facilities. Didn’t try the restaurant - so I could not give it a review score - as I prefer to wander around the street food vendors but many guests did eat there during my stay. Hotel will book tours and activities and can arrange airport transfer. Would have scored it 10 except that I like to brew my own tea to drink in the room but it seemed the woman in the kitchen appeared always to give me disapproving looks on every occasion that I helped myself to hot water from the nearby boiler!!!!

An oldie but a goodie!”
Lai Thai has character. It reminds me of a happier decade, say the 1950’s or 1960’s, and could just as easily be located in Honolulu. To be clear, the hotel is very old.. and large, for that matter.. but it’s been maintained with love, if not much in the way of upgrades. The floors creak, the telephone, tv and refrigerator are 40-50 years old. The electric wiring is clearly a fire hazard.. but all of this just adds to the charm. Despite these things, it’s clean, comfortable and safe. The staff are usually very kind and helpful. And at 750 Baht per night, it’s a bargain. Did I mention there’s a swimming pool and a restaurant on site? Or that you are ideally located between the Old City, Ping River and Loi Kroh Road nightlife? For four days and nights, I felt like a pretty wealthy guy. That doesn’t happen back home. Thanks Lai Thai!

Me and my partner stayed here for 8 days. We had the best time in Chiang Mai. All our tours were sorted by the lovely lady at Lai Thai guesthouse. The pool was perfect for hot days, one side in the shade and one side in the sun. Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels were provided. The location was perfect!

We have been going to Lai Thai Guesthouse for some years now and always have been treated very well by the staff at the time. They have tried very hard to make it easy for us and the swimming pool has been the place to relax..... The refrigerator is a very good size and internet has always worked....What more can you ask for....

very nice, friendly staff. Nice bedroom, comfy bed and nicely decorated to a Thai theme. Nice location just opersit the canal. Had a nice Thai soup for breakfast. Was so nice I ordered another one which set me up for the day ahead. I arrived early and was allowed to check in which my friend stayed at another hotel and had to wait until 2. Would deffo recommend for anyone staying in Chiang mai.

I enjoyed my stay at Lai Thai. I will not even consider any other hotel, if I return to Chaing Mai. Centrally located, clean room, clean pool, nice staff, good restaurant.
