“Absolutely stunning resort, but....”
...be aware that the resort is really not walkable. It is located on a hillside, lots of very steep hills, so you need to take advantage of the songthaews that are provided. However, you need to wait for these to arrive and sometimes they are full, adding to the wait. This was our biggest complaint as we like to explore the area we are in and take advantage of the facilities that are offered and this could not be done easily. The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. The resort was clean and well maintained. The restaurants and food offerings were all very good but the prices were expensive, in our opinion. One other major concern if you are thinking of booking this resort is to be sure of your dates of travel before you book. We booked our room and then two months before travel, found that we needed to amend our stay by one day. We had booked through Agoda and contacted them to have this done. However, we were told that we would have to contact the hotel directly. We tried....by email and also direct calls from Canada but every time we were told to either call Agoda by the hotel or Agoda told us to call the hotel. Total runaround! Neither party would allow us to change our stay by one day. We were told that we could cancel our stay, which we did not want to do, by no changes were allowed. The full price of our booking was taken and we decided to try and address this matter once we arrived at the resort. We spoke with a wonderful staff member, ***, who tried to assist but we found out that it was hotel policy that no changes could be made. No refunds or resort credits offered! We spent a significant amount on our room per night so it was incredibly disappointing that the hotel would not offer us anything for the one night we could not stay for. Incredible! We have travelled extensively and at no time have we ever encountered such a policy. So just be very sure of your dates when booking! It certainly put a sour note on our stay and we will not return to this resort should we travel to Koh Yao Yai in the future.
