Did you find this review summary helpful?
😄 Street gang -> 3-5 minutes to Gion Station, 7-Eleven + Family Mart, 10-15 minutes to Don Quijote, there are quite a few izakayas nearby. 😄 A ryokan with a strong local Japanese feel. 😄 Heater, air conditioning, and TV all work great (it might be a bit cold in winter). 😄 Operated by an elderly couple who are very kind. 😄 Good value for money -> I went just before Chuseok and it was affordable. 😄 There’s a dog -> extremely cute... very sociable...🐶🫶 😄 There is a smoking room. 😄 Warm water comes out well. 🥺 Since the owners are quite old, they might not hear well -> I waited for about 20 minutes, but it was fine because I played with the dog during that time. (For check-in + check-out or any inquiries, you need to call out loudly or knock on the inner door.) 🥺 The shower room is not available from midnight to 6 AM. 🥺 The layout is a bit like a maze, which can be confusing. 🥺 I don't think the soundproofing is very good, but it may vary depending on the person (when I went, it was really very quiet). 🥺 The blankets are a bit heavy (but I liked this heaviness). I highly recommend it if you like dogs and want to experience a traditional Japanese feel for good value! ✨️ I'm not particularly sensitive, but for an old ryokan, it was clean and well maintained, and the elderly couple treated me kindly, so I had a good rest. * However, if you consider yourself sensitive, it would be better to go somewhere else or think about the value-for-money aspect if you do stay here.
I think this is the best inn for dog lovers. Charmy-chan greeted us at the entrance with such a brave and clever demeanor. She was really cute. The staff was also very kind, gentle, and warm-hearted. The room, bath, and toilet were all clean, and I was able to sleep comfortably on the fluffy bedding. It was conveniently located within walking distance from Hakata Station, so that was great too. If I get the chance, I would love to visit Charmy-chan again. Thank you very much.
I was able to encounter a wonderful accommodation in an unexpected way. Before staying, I was quite apprehensive, but it turned out to be comfortable. The toilet is outside the room, but it wasn't much of an inconvenience; the room isn't very spacious, but it's more than sufficient, and although it's old, it is kept clean and has a good feel to it. It is much better than a mediocre business hotel. I did see reviews mentioning that "there are many students making noise until late at night" and "the walls are thin, and sounds can be heard from the neighboring room," so there might be some variability, but that seems more like an issue with the guests rather than the accommodation itself. Above all, the location is excellent and the price is incredibly cheap. I can recommend this accommodation without any reservations.
Room was very spacious, and well maintained. Facilities are clean. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. Near the Gion subway station, and City Canal. Walking distance from Hakata station. But if you have big luggages, just be aware that there’s no elevator.

“Enjoyed Hakata Gion Old Town Inn”
Stayed 2 nights. Located in Gion Old Town Gion-machi, this inn tucked a block away from the main streets. Walking 20 minute distance from Hakata bus station /Hakata shinkansen and very close to bus stop and subway. Have own tatami room with modest TV, air conditioning, sleep on futon. Breakfast in dining room is typical Japanese with rice, miso soup, shoyu? fried fish, fried egg, veggie salad, natto=portion is good served with tea. One signs up for the time to take a relaxing bath ofuro hot tub after showering. Toilets and sinks are shared. If you are not planning to stay cooped at the inn all day, it's very good convenient place to stay. Staff is very kind, friendly even as my Japanese speech was mixed with English. Was able to leave my luggage before/after checkin and checkout. They called a taxi for me in the afternoon, hours after checkout when I was ready for the Fukuoka airport. Taxi was great for direct international departure since I had two large suitcases and using the bus or subway would have been stressful with all the airport construction and having to take a shuttle from domestic to international with everyone else's baggage. Cost was just over 2,000 yen. The private room is large compared to other places. Could hear folks walking; not loud. Be aware the city charges a 200 yen (in my case) accommodation daily tax separate from what you pay Agoda. You should also bring hotel confirmation sheet with you as the staff thought I did not pay for breakfast, easily resolved. For a relatively old inn, it's a great traditional value. I will stay there again.
